Injustice
Inspired by many forms of injustice, each image comes with it's own distinctive reason for its 'being'. Whether it be slavery, religious hypocrisy, animal cruelty, or the loss of cultural identity, each subject matter has inspired Howard to raise awareness of the particular issue. With Howard's typical usage of vibrant colours there is plenty of darkness within the beauty of these pieces.
Inspired by the lyrics of a powerful song of the same name by Anohni. Look it up.
Asiatic Lion.
Western Lowland Gorilla. There will come a time in the not too distant future when the only Gorilla's you will be able to see... are statues of!
This piece represents the human cost of mans lust for the Earths natural resources; gold, diamonds etc. Slaves are used (in The Congo for example) to mine for the ore, and many pay the highest possible price.
Part of a set of pictures highlighting the plight of those people who have been enslaved to mine the earths natural riches.
Buddhism is known as being one of the most peaceful religions, if not the! Yet even Buddhists have a history of killing in the name of their religion. Recently, Buddhist Monks in Burma and Sri Lanka went on the rampage against Muslims and their businesses, burning Mosques, rioting and killing. It just goes to show that every religion has its own zealots and extremists. Siddartha would despair.
If Jesus was alive today, He would not judge others based upon their sexual identities, but by their deeds. The colours were created using refracted sunlight through a crystal to create the rainbow.
This piece represents the demise of local culture and tradition as we all become part of mass globalisation; the sad loss of unique aspects of a culture that help to define who ‘we’ are as a nation, a definate negative to globalisation.
